There have always been people who take paradoxical comfort in being sure the end is nigh.

If the world isn’t going to be here much longer, you don’t have to worry about saving money anymore. You don’t have to think too hard about who you want to spend your life with. It frees you from the hassle of long-term planning . . . and from the stress of having to care about what people think of you.

Walker: So . . . it’s an attractive belief system for idiots and cowards, is what you’re saying.
