Okay, who here is familiar with Hurt/Comfort Bingo? It’s a challenge where you get a card full of prompts (here’s mine) and earn points by fulfilling them in groups. If you follow my regular blog or my deviantART account, you’ve seen some of the fills pop up, in the form of fics, art, mixes, and so on.

Though it’s best known as a fandom challenge, you can also fill the prompts with original works. Which is good, because one of my prompts is “brainwashing,” and when two of your characters are cult survivors, the appropriate soundtrack pretty much mixes itself.

Boh Runga † Be Careful
(The Order of St. Lily, a friendly-seeming cult with a charismatic leader. But, well, it’s a cult. Tread carefully.)

Tomorrow, I’ll begin
Greet the morning, like a friend
Everybody, search your heart
We’re all searching from the start

Just be careful what you wish for
And remember it could end
Just be careful who you fall for
Who you let under your skin
Be careful who, be careful who
Who you love

Kate Bush † Lily
(There’s something unearthly about the young woman with golden eyes. Maybe she really is of the nephilim.)

Oh thou, who givest sustenance to the universe
From whom all things proceed
To whom all things return
Unveil to us the face of the true spiritual sun
Hidden by a disc of golden light
That we may know the truth
And do our whole duty
As we journey to thy sacred feet…

I said, “Lily, Oh Lily I’m so afraid
I fear I am walking in the Veil of Darkness”
And she said, “Child, take what I say
With a pinch of salt
And protect yourself with fire”

Jesus Christ Superstar † Heaven On Their Minds
(Whatever she is, she doesn’t fulfill the cult’s messianic expectations. It gets ugly fast.)

Listen, Jesus to the warning I give
Please remember that I want us to live
But it’s sad to see our chances weakening with every hour
All your followers are blind
Too much Heaven on their minds
It was beautiful but now it’s sour
Yes, it’s all, all gone sour

Gregorian † Losing My Religion
(Timothy watches from the sidelines as first his brother and then Lily’s Master die.)

That’s me in the corner
That’s me in the spotlight
Losing my religion
Trying to keep up with you
And I don’t know if I can do it
Oh no, I’ve said too much
I haven’t said enough

I thought that I heard you crying
I thought that I heard you scream
I think I thought I saw you die

Blackmore’s Night † Where Are We Going From Here
(All he knows is that he has to get the hell out of there.)

On a long road, miles to go
It’s winding and cold and it’s covered with snow
But I ask you what we all want to know
Where are we going from here

Lines on my face , lines on my hands
Lead to a future I don’t understand
Some things don’t go as they’re planned
Where are we going from here

Godspell † By My Side
(On the road, Lily catches him up and offers him a contract.)

Where are you going?
Where are you going?
Can you take me with you?
For my hand is cold
And needs warmth
Where are you going?

Far beyond where the horizon lies
Where the horizon lies
And the land sinks into
Mellow blueness
Oh, please take me with you

Journey † To Be Alive Again
(Lily, renamed Reseda, recovers quickly, and develops a newly snarky and active personality along the way.)

To be alive again
Waking up from where you been
Younger now than you were then
You’re coming ’round again
Do you remember when
Life was so much simpler then
Like summer nights that never end

You’re not among the walking wounded anymore
There’s a time to fall
There’s a time to rise above it all

Wicked † Defying Gravity
(Timothy’s recovering too. Under the name Camellia, she starts expressing herself more freely.)

Something has changed within me
Something is not the same
I’m through with playing by the rules
Of someone else’s game
Too late for second-guessing
Too late to go back to sleep
It’s time to trust my instincts
Close my eyes and leap

It’s time to try defying gravity
I think I’ll try defying gravity
And you can’t pull me down

Michael Stanley Band † Don’t Stop The Music
(There’s a lot of dancing involved.)

Half way to heaven, in an angel’s eyes
Riding high and feeling easy
With the guitars playing
And her body swaying
I’m gonna breakaway

Ah ha, don’t stop, don’t stop the music
Rave on, into the light
Don’t stop, don’t stop the music
Rave on, all night

Plumb † Real
(But unlike Reseda, she can’t let her past losses slip from her mind forever.)

Look at me, I’m twenty-three
Beautiful, a sight to see tonight
A little dress to draw the press
And I’ll be leaving all the rest behind

Well be pleased girl
If this is what you wanted
The whole world is watching you take the stage
What will you say…

The world goes home
The lights go down
My lipstick fades away

Aren’t I lovely, and
Do you want me, cause
I am hungry for something that will make me real
Can you see me, and
Do you love me, cause
I am desperately searching for something real

Todd Agnew † Grace Like Rain
(Looking for peace in a less warped kind of faith.)

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost but now I’m found
Was blind but now I see so clearly

Hallelujah, grace like rain falls down on me
Hallelujah, all my stains are washed away
They’re washed away

Utena † A Round Dance – Revolution
(It’s a strange kind of yuritastic Master-servant BFFdom that Timothy and Reseda settle into. But it works.)

isagiyoku kakkoyoku ikite-yukou
tatoe futari hanarebanare ni natte mo
Take my revolution

hikari sasu garden te wo toriai
chikaiatta nagusameatta “mou koi wa
nido to shinai yo” tte…

isagiyoku kakkoyoku ashita kara wa
daremo ga furimuku onna ni naru
tatoe futari hanarebanare ni natte mo
kokoro wa zutto issho ni

Let’s go on living our lives heroically, with style
And even if the two of us should be separated
Take my revolution

In the sunlit garden, hand in hand,
We drew close, and soothed each other with the words:
“Neither of us will ever fall in love again”…

As of tomorrow, I’ll be such a heroic, stylish woman
Everybody will turn and look back at me
But even if the two of us should be separated
Our hearts will always be together
